(Adams Co.) Two Corning men were injured Wednesday morning in a head-on collision on Highway 148 that authorities say occurred amid heavy fog.
According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received two emergency alerts around 7:29 a.m. on October 30 — one from the Life360 app and another from an iPhone crash detection system — reporting a possible crash near Highway 148 and North Lake Road.
Deputies, along with Corning Fire Department and Corning Ambulance, responded to the scene and found a black Acura in the middle of the highway with extensive front-end damage. The driver, identified as 40-year-old Bryan Coffman-Sayre of Corning, was trapped inside the vehicle.
Emergency crews entered through the passenger window to treat Coffman-Sayre while firefighters cut and removed the driver’s door to extract him. A medical helicopter was requested but could not fly due to weather conditions.
A second vehicle, a gray Jeep Wrangler driven by Matthew Ramsey, 45, of Corning, was found in the west ditch, also with heavy front-end damage.
Investigators say Coffman-Sayre was traveling north on Highway 148 and attempted to pass another vehicle in dense fog when he struck Ramsey’s southbound Jeep head-on. Both drivers were transported by ambulance with serious and minor injuries.
Highway 148 was temporarily closed to allow emergency crews to safely treat the injured and clear the scene.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office thanked Corning Fire, Corning Ambulance, and Adams County Emergency Management for their assistance.
