(Glenwood) Glenwood Head Coach Cory Faust says it has been a fun year, and more than anything, it has been the commitment to doing things right. The (7-2) Rams are one of 16 teams left standing in Class 4A. Glenwood travels to Class 4A defending champion North Polk tonight for a first-round playoff game.
Faust admits they still have the best football ahead of them.
Faust says the Comets are deep with good line play on both sides of the ball. North Polk has rushed for 1,549 yards this season, led by Connor Reinhart, who has 894 yards rushing, averaging 5.5 yards per carry, and eleven touchdowns. Quarterback James Armstrong has completed an impressive 65.2 percent of his passes for 1,507 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Coach Faust points out a couple of players who have stepped up this season. One of those players is Korbin Pelzer, who Faust describes as a “late bloomer.”
Coach Faust mentioned Gavin Abott, a career quarterback, asked to move to defensive back. Faust says he wasn’t sure Abbott would play varsity football. However, thanks to Abbott’s work ethic, he found a spot in the starting lineup.
The Rams enter the contest with some impressive numbers of their own. The Rams have rushed for 1,939 yards, led by Scott Reed, who has 1,413 yards and averages an impressive 7.4 yards per carry, with 14 touchdowns. Junior quarterback Ben Carlo completes 59.7 percent of his passes for 1,560 yards and eleven touchdowns to just three interceptions. The Rams have four capable receivers: Kaden Crouch, 35 catches, for 565 yards; Jack Johnson, 31 catches for 374 yards; Myles Longmeyer; and Ethan Eiseman, with 246 and 247 yards, respectively.
The game kicks off at North Polk Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
