(Atlantic) The Elks Lodge #445 in Atlantic is once again collecting donations of deer hides and tails to benefit veterans.
Collection boxes are available at three locations: the Wiota Fire Department, McCunn Specialty Firearms in Massena, and behind the Elks Lodge at 411 Walnut Street in Atlantic. Donors are asked to call the phone number listed on each box after dropping off a hide so volunteers can ensure the hides are treated and stored properly.
The donated hides are put to good use by veterans’ programs, where they are crafted into various leather goods—including gloves designed for veterans who use wheelchairs.
