(Oakland, IA) — The Riverside boys cross country team will be preparing this week for the state meet this Saturday in Fort Dodge. The Bulldogs have never won a team or individual title at state and yet they are the favorites this year being ranked #1 in Class 1A by the Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association. The secret to winning a state title in cross country is depth and Riverside has it with the Henderson Brothers — Dawson and Brody — plus Owen Fenner, Cruz Jacquez, Eli Hudnall and James McCready. Head Coach Alex Oliver says they push each other every day
Riverside won 8 of their regular season meets — finished 2nd at the tough Atlantic meet with Nebraska powerhouse Lincoln Pius X and were 12th at the Heartland Classic in Pella — a mid season race where the Bulldogs went up against the toughest teams in the state. Not only that but Oliver has pushed them to the brink in practice
Other teams in Class 1A that Riverside will have has their main competition include #2 Lake Mills, #3 Ankeny Christian, #4 Earlham, #5 Beckman Catholic. Oliver knows that to be the best is to beat the best
The Class 1A Boys race will be at 2:45 pm this Saturday.
