(Carroll) The Carroll Tigers are hitting their stride at just the right time as they prepare to host Atlantic in a showdown for the Class 3A District Title. After a rocky start that saw them drop three of their first four non-district games, the Tigers have been dominant in district play — defeating Harlan 33-28, Greene County 35-0, Creston 50-0, and Perry 63-7 last week.
Head Coach Craig Rowedder credits the team’s 15 seniors for providing the leadership that has fueled Carroll’s perfect district run. He says the Tigers graduated a talented senior class last year and faced plenty of uncertainty entering this season, but this year’s leaders have stepped up in a big way.
Adam Malik is one example of a player who waited his turn. He played a backup role one year ago. The senior has rushed for 1,131, averaging 7.2 yards per carry, and 15 touchdowns, which ranks fourth in Class 3A.
When it comes to facing Atlantic, Coach Rowedder says it’s like looking into a mirror.
Rowedder says defensively, Atlantic linebacker Jake Wailes stands out as one player they need to get a hat on.
Coach Rowedder says they must establish the running game early in the game, limit turnovers, and play gap sound on defense, is what they need to do to lead to success.
We will have the broadcast on KS 95.7, and live-streamed on westerniowatoday.com TV and YouTube. (Go to news@westerniowatoday to watch the game on YouTube.) The Pre-game show start time is tentative.
