(Audubon) The Audubon Wheelers football team heads into postseason action Friday night after an outstanding regular season. The team lit up the scoreboard all year, averaging an incredible 72 points per game. The #5 rated Wheelers are 8-0 and host 5-3 Lenox.
Wheelers Head Coach Sean Birks is proud of the team’s focus and effort throughout the regular season.
Through eight weeks of regular play, Audubon punted the ball once, and just two fumbles. The Wheelers’ offense performed at a high level, as mentioned, averaging 72 points per game, and limited the opposition to two or fewer first downs on multiple occasions.
Coach Birks says one thing they did a little differently this year was to present a “word” of the week. One of the three words used every week includes: Relentless, Fearless, and Discipline, and a standard is a standard. Birks says they expect the players to push at all levels.
The Wheelers host 5-3 Lenox on Friday night. The Tigers enter the contest riding a four-game winning Streak. Coach Birks says Lenox is a story of two seasons. Birks says Lenox has moved some players into different positions as the season’s gone on. For example, Laramie Stoaks has gone from quarterback to receiver.
Lenox has rushed for 1,694 yards this season and passed for another 608. The Wheelers have 2,494 rushing yards and passed for another 721.
The game kicks off at 7:00 p.m. at Audubon.
