(Oakland, IA) — Underwood played Riverside tougher than their two previous meetings but not tough enough as the Bulldogs advanced to the Regional Semifinals with a 3-0 win on Wednesday night.
Riverside used a balanced attack to beat Underwood in three straight sets 25-14, 25-17 and 25-21.
The two teams were tied 3-3 in the first set and the Bulldogs scored 10 of the next 12 points to take a 13-5 lead and dominated from there.
The second set was close early on — Riverside led 13-11 and scored 6 of the next 7 points to take a 19-12 lead. In the first two sets, Underwood never got more than 2 points on their serve.
The Eagles came out firing in the third set and took a 7-4 lead. They led 15-12 but the Bulldogs came back, got a sideout to tie it 16-16 and rattled off 3 straight points highlighted by a Sydney Somers kill to lead 19-16. Lilli Reed would get the game winning kill to finish off Underwood.
