(Elk Horn, IA) — Exira EHK would get a huge performance from their only senior Jaelynn Petersen in a 3 set win over CAM on Monday night in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs.
Petersen had 4 aces in the first set and had 22 kills overall to lead the Spartans to a 3 set sweep of the Cougars 25-18, 27-25, and 25-14.
In the first set with CAM leading 8-6, Jaelynn took the serve and won 9 straight points including four aces in the sequence to build a 15-8 lead and eventually won 25-18.
The 2nd set was back and forth. The Spartans took a sideout and won 3 points on serve to lead 14-11. CAM fought back to 18-19 and there were 6 straight sideouts. Keely Kinney got a huge kill to tie it at 22-22. A Jaelynn kill make it 24-22 but the Cougars held off two set points to tie it 24-24. The Cougars avoided 2 more set points but Taryn Petersen got a huge kill to win it 27-25.
Taryn served to start the third set and Exira EHK won 10 straight points and never trailed in the set. Taryn Petersen earned her 500th career kill in the third set and Zoey Rasmussen went over 500 assists for the year.
Exira EHK is now 13-12 and will visit St. Albert (15-15) on Wednesday night. CAM ends their season at 11-21.
