(Underwood, IA) — Underwood has clinched the number two seed in Class 1A, District 8. The Eagles beat Shenandoah 36-7 last week to secure the playoff spot. Head Coach Nate Mechaelsen is happy to see the return of Riley Sealock to the backfield — the senior ran 7 times for 104 yards and 2 TD — Mechaelsen says he has wheels
On the defensive side, the Eagles had 8 tackles for a loss by 8 different guys — they pitched a shutout until the Mustangs scored late. Mechaelsen wanted his defense to improve particularly in the secondary
The secondary will get more work in this week’s game against Red Oak — the Tigers have more passing yards than on the ground. Senior QB Masen Fisher has thrown for 667 yards, 2 TD and 6 INT but Red Oak has just 328 yards of rushing total. Even though the Tigers have struggled offensively, Mechaelsen says they get after it on defense
Mechaelsen made an emphasis for his football team to work hard during the summer and he is starting to see dividends as the Eagles go into their regular season finale
5-2 Underwood visits 2-5 Red Oak
