(Area) — The Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union have both released the assignments for the cross country state qualifying meets which will be held next week. 3A and 4A will be run on Wednesday, October 22 while 1A and 2A will be run on Thursday, October 23.
Atlantic will be competing at Gilbert High School on Wednesday. The Gilbert Tigers have the top ranked boys team in Class 3A. Des Moines Christian will also be running at Gilbert and their girls are ranked #2 and the boys are ranked #7 in 3A.
Harlan will be going up to Spencer to run on Wednesday — the girls are ranked #15 in the state and will compete against #4 Sioux Center, #16 Bishop Heelan and fellow H-10 schools Glenwood and Denison Schleswig. Sioux Center’s boys team is also the best team in Spencer, ranked #5.
In Class 2A, Clarinda, Red Oak, Shenandoah, and Underwood are all running at Pella Christian.
AC/GC will host a Regional meet in Class 1A with AHSTW, Boyer Valley, CAM, East Mills, Exira EHK, Heartland Christian, IKM Manning, Logan Magnolia, Missouri Valley, Newell Fonda, Nodaway Valley, Riverside, St. Albert, Tri Center, West Monona, Westwood, Whiting and Woodbine all scheduled to compete. Riverside’s Boys are ranked #1 in 1A, IKM Manning is ranked #16 and Woodbine is ranked #19. Newell Fonda’s girls are ranked #5, Tri Center is #15.
Central Decatur is also hosting a 1A Regional with East Union, Fremont Mills, Griswold, Lenox, Sidney, Southwest Valley and Stanton competing.
From each of the class 2A, 3A and 4A state qualifying meets, the first three teams, plus the first 15 individual place winners will qualify for the state meet. The first two teams, plus the first 10 individual place winners will qualifying for the state meet from each of the class 1A state qualifying meets.
All meets will start at 4 pm on both Wednesday and Thursday.
