(Guthrie Center) – ACGC will host Riverside this Friday night in a showdown for the Class A District 7 title. Both teams enter the contest undefeated in district play, with the Chargers sitting at 7-0 and the Bulldogs at 6-1. Regardless of the outcome, both squads have already secured spots in the postseason.
ACGC Head Coach Cody Matthewson says that although his team has already secured a home game for the first round of the playoffs, this matchup still holds significant meaning. “The storyline for the district title couldn’t be written any better,” he said.
While ACGC’s high-powered offense has garnered attention — averaging just under 43 points per game — the Chargers’ defense has been just as dominant, allowing opponents to score only about eight points per contest.
Coach Matthewson acknowledges the challenge that Riverside presents, especially with standout running back Jaxon Gordon. The senior has been a force in the Bulldogs’ backfield, racking up 1,827 rushing yards this season and averaging 8.4 yards per carry. Still, Matthewson emphasizes that games like these are about more than just schemes and statistics.
“This game will be won in the trenches,” he said. Both teams feature run-heavy offenses. Riverside has totaled 2,532 rushing yards on the season, while ACGC has amassed 2,256 yards on the ground.
The kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday at ACGC.
