(Mills Co.) A Kansas man took his life following a brief pursuit in Mills County early this (Tuesday) morning.
According to the Mills County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shortly after 1 a.m. to a vehicle parked dangerously on an Interstate 29 overpass just south of U.S. Highway 34. During a welfare check, deputies found a man inside the vehicle, later identified as Charles Webb of Shawnee, Kansas.
Authorities say Webb drove away from the scene and stopped at another overpass at Rist Avenue over I-29. When deputies arrived, Webb was outside his vehicle. Despite deputies’ attempts to assist him, Webb took his own life.
Life-saving efforts were made by deputies and Glenwood Fire and Rescue personnel, but Webb was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the investigation at the request of the Mills County Sheriff’s Office.
