(Exira) Regional Water announced today, October 13, that is has implemented the “Level RED” Advisory for the customers and communities on the eastern part of the ATP system. They were notified at approximately 3:40 p.m. by the Nishnabotna Valley REC that an accident occurred in eastern Shelby County causing a power spike. This overloaded Booster Station #4, causing damage to the pump. As of now there is no water flowing to Tower 4, which is currently the only tower serving eastern Shelby and Audubon County customers. Residents are asked to conserve immediately so that Tower 4 does not drain, and cause a Boil Advisory. Level RED is the highest level of mandatory Water Use Restrictions of its Emergency Water Conservation Plan.
General Manager Tom Kallman stated, “This Level RED advisory is not connected to the Boil Advisory already in place in Exira. We can Prevent a boil advisory from being necessary if we immediately conserve water. The Level RED restrictions only affect the eastern part of the Avoca Treatment Plant System, which includes members and customers of the Association in eastern Shelby, Audubon, and Cass Counties. Included are the communities of Kirkman, Elk Horn, Exira, and Brayton.
