(Boulder, CO) — Iowa St. has not found success on the road in the Big 12 — after last week’s loss at Cincinnati, the Cyclones followed it up with another defeat on Saturday falling to Colorado 24-17.
The Buffaloes made big defensive plays and got a huge break in the second half. Early in the 4th quarter, ISU faced a 3rd and Goal from the 7 and Rocco Becht threw an interception to Tawfiq Byard at the goal line but a flag was thrown behind the play where Ben Brahmer was practically tackled in the end zone. It was an obvious pass interference but the officials huddled together and decided to pick up the flag. Iowa St. Head Coach Matt Campbell went crazy on the sidelines but his arguments went through one ear and out the other and the interception stood.
Colorado was able to change the field position and punt to Iowa St. pinning them at their own 9. A short while later, Abu Sama III was stuffed on 4th and 1 at their own 18 yard line and Colorado kicked a short field goal to take a 7 point lead. The Cyclones last drive resulted in a punt and the Buffs ran out the clock.
The outcome spoiled a great day from Sama III who ran 24 times for 177 yards and 2 TD. The yardage was the 2nd best in a single game and only the 4th time in his career he has gone over 100 yards in a game.
Iowa St. will now surely fall out of the Top 25 as they fall to 5-2, 2-2 and will try to rebound next Saturday hosting #18 BYU, kickoff TBD, coverage on KSOM.
