(Creston, IA) — The Creston community is pushing for a mayoral special election as city council members aim for an appointment. The city council held a special meeting on September 23rd to discuss how the next mayor should be chosen after former Mayor Waylon Clayton resigned last month. Clayton announced his family was moving to Florida after serving just two years of his four-year term. Community members have since started collecting signatures to hold a special election after council members decided to appoint a community member themselves. A petition for the election needs to be filed with the city clerk by October 17th, as the council is scheduled to appoint a new mayor on October 21st.
