(Corning, IA) — Southwest Valley is still alive for a playoff spot in Class A, District 7. Right now, AC/GC and Riverside look like they are destined for a district title clash next week if they can beat AHSTW and Central Decatur respectively. The Timberwolves are 2-3 in district play as they go into this week’s non district game against West Monona.
Last Friday, Southwest pitched the shutout in a 42-0 win over Nodaway Valley — they had 14 tackles for a loss in the game — Sophomore Jackson Hogan had 3 and Junior Jake Brandt had 3 and Head Coach Keegan Longabaugh says it was a coming out party for his defensive ends
If Southwest Valley is going to the post season, they will have to do it without their starting QB Wyatt Mendenhall is officially out for the season. Sophomore Wyatt Shires is the now the guy — he was 8-17 passing for 159 yards and 1 TD against the Wolverines and ran for 81 yards and 2 more scores. Longabaugh is excited to see what he can do now that he is the full time starter
Even though this week’s game means nothing for the playoff picture, Longabaugh says momentum is big in football. Mount Ayr is looming next week with a potential playoff berth on the line. The Spartans have not thrown the football much — West Monona uses 3 or 4 different guys on the ground and Longabaugh says they will mix up their formations
3-3 Southwest Valley visits 1-5 West Monona
