(Washington D.C.) Representative Zach Nunn, of Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District, says the ongoing federal government shutdown is beginning to directly impact Iowans — from farmers and veterans to families relying on federal assistance — as he urges action to keep critical services running.
Nunn said the House passed a clean continuing resolution just to keep the government running while they finish their appropriation plans, but he said the Democrat minority in the Senate moved forward $1.5 trillion in new spending programs.
Nunn is concerned that the shutdown will have a direct impact on everyone from Iowa farmers to veterans who need assistance. He said 340,000 Iowans are at risk of losing their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, SBA loans are on hold — including those for natural disasters — and VA claims for services and benefits owed to veterans are being delayed due to the shutdown.
Zach Nunn said during the shutdown, his offices are open. He has a fully staffed team in Des Moines, Creston and Ottumwa.

Zach Nunn chose not to take a paycheck during the shutdown.
Nunn is pushing a bill called Pay Our Troops Act, a bipartisan bill to make sure that every military member is paid.
Nunn highlighted that there are 15,000 Guardsmen across Iowa who will not receive a paycheck, and three million Iowans who may travel and find no available TSA security lines or FAA personnel to assist with their flights. He said he has met with TSA and FAA staff to thank them for their service and acknowledge the hardships they are facing.
