(Lewis, Iowa) Deer bow season opened on October 1 and will run through December 5, with a pause during the shotgun seasons. Once those have wrapped up, bow season will resume.
According to Iowa Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Biologist John Lorenzen, recent warm weather has slowed deer movement as detected by trail cameras. “From what I have heard, with all this warm weather, deer movement on people’s trail cameras has slowed down,” Lorenzen said. “But fall is here, and temperatures will be cooling off.”
Lorenzen advises hunters to start preparing now. “It’s a good idea to get your deer stands up,” he said. “If they’re already hung, head out and check the chains or straps. Tighten them so that when you show up in the pre-dawn hours, you’ll be climbing into a safe tree stand.”
