(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines is warning of elevated fire danger across the state today.
From noon to 7 p.m., strong southerly winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, combined with low humidity between 30 and 36 percent, above-normal temperatures, and dry cropland, are expected to create dangerous fire conditions.
Officials caution that any fire that starts could spread quickly, particularly in agricultural fields. Residents are urged prevent the start of accidental fires when smoking or operating vehicles and farm equipment around dry vegetation or crops.
