(Atlantic) The Atlantic Fire Department will kick off Fire Prevention Week on Sunday, October 5, with its annual donation breakfast at the fire station, running from 7:00 a.m. to noon. Atlantic Fire Department Lieutenant Jake Vetter is the parade organizer.
Vetter says the breakfast consists of pancakes, sausage, eggs, and bacon, for a free-will donation.
As for the parade, the lineup begins at 4:00 p.m. at 3rd and Olive Street, with the parade stepping off at 6:00 p.m. in downtown Atlantic. Lieutenant Vetter notes that there is no registration fee for participants in the fire prevention entry. Vetter says, like most parades, the distribution of candy will be handled differently than in past years.
One of the highlights of the parade is the Construction Drill Team out of Omaha, Nebraska. Vetter says they made an exception to join this year’s parade.
Vetter says the three clowns, Bitz, Dotz, and Sweet Pea, will be walking the parade route and having a good time. Not to mention, fire departments from around the area.
Again, the breakfast is this Sunday, October 5, from 7:00 a.m. to Noon. The Parade will culminate the week on Saturday, October 11, starting at 6:00 p.m. in downtown Atlantic.
The theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “Rechargeable Battery Safety.” We will hear more on that topic on Monday, with Atlantic Fire Department Captain Paul Wood.
