(Cass Co.) The Cass County Board of Supervisors approved support for the Vision Atlantic project during a special meeting this morning.
Vision Atlantic identified expanded childcare, quality housing, and quality-of-life amenities as key to growing Atlantic’s population. Infrastructure for the Camblin Hills housing development and a 300-capacity child development center is nearly complete, with 48 homes under construction. Work on the center and a YMCA expansion is set to begin in early 2026.
The Supervisors unanimously approved contributing $2.5 million at $500,000 a year for the next five years to the Childcare Center using the economic development funds starting in Fiscal Year 26-27.
The Supervisors also discussed leasing the Willow Heights facility. The county-owned residential building, formerly operated by Partnership for Progress, closed in 2021 and is located in a rural area south of Atlantic. The Board is finalizing a lease agreement with an interested party.
The potential lessee was not disclosed, but it was noted that the lease is expected to take effect on November 1.
