(Des Moines) There’s a new deadline for Des Moines School Superintendent Ian Roberts.
Schools Board Chair Jackie Norris. Roberts was arrested last week by ICE and taken to a jail in Sioux City. The Des Moines school board verified that Roberts falsely stated he was a U.S. citizen on his I-9 when he was hired. He was ordered deported under the Biden Administration in 2024.
The Des Moines Public Schools Board is revoking the education license of former Superintendent Ian Roberts. Officials held a meeting yesterday to address the issues surrounding Roberts’ detainment by ICE officials on Friday. Board members claim the district was unaware of his illegal immigration status and stated that Roberts had a good relationship with the school community. Chairwoman Jackie Norris also clarified that this is an ongoing situation where the school board is still learning new information while complying with federal and state laws. The board is expected to meet later this evening to discuss the next steps in the situation.
