(Des Moines) The price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa dropped 6 cents from last week, now averaging $2.91 per gallon, according to AAA. Gas prices are down 13 cents compared with a year ago, while the national average rose 4 cents to $3.16.
Diesel prices in Iowa also dipped slightly, falling 1 cent to $3.50 per gallon. That is 19 cents below the national average of $3.69 and 16 cents higher than the price a year ago.
Despite lower fuel prices at the pump, global crude oil costs increased this week. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose 61 cents per barrel to $64.73, while Brent crude gained 90 cents, reaching $68.95. Prices remain below last year’s levels, when WTI traded at $72.34 and Brent at $75.29 per barrel.
In the heating fuel market, natural gas prices rose 5 cents at the Henry Hub, now priced at $3.16 per million British thermal units (MMBtu). Retail heating oil and propane prices in Iowa will be updated in October.
