(Manson) Two people died and four others were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Calhoun County.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened on Saturday on Highway 7 three miles east of Manson. Authorities say 26-year-old Alondra Bravo, and 34-year-old Jorge Perez Hechavarria, both from Storm Lake died in the crash. Both victims were taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office. The four others injured in the crash are identified as an 8-year-old boy, 46-year-old Marina Escalante, and Wifredo Quevedo Mesa, all three from Storm Lake, and 21-year-old Connor Darr, of Manson. LifeFlight transported Marina Escalante to Iowa Methodist. Ground ambulances transported Wifredo Quevedo-Mesa, Luis Bravo and Connor Darr to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
According to the report, Wifredo Quevedo Mesa was driving a 2012 Chevy Explorer westbound on Highway 7 and crossed the centerline and collided with an eastbound 2020 Chevy Silverado pickup driven by 21-year-old Connor Darr. The impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway into the ditch. The Chevy Van rolled onto its’ side, and the pickup struck a utility pole, and came to rest in a field. Authorities say the three unrestrained victims in the Chevy Explorer were sitting on patio furniture purchased prior to the crash.
