(Council Bluffs, Iowa) Authorities have identified the body recovered from the Missouri River last week as 40-year-old Steven Garland of Omaha, Nebraska.
On Friday afternoon, emergency crews from the Council Bluffs Police and Fire Departments responded to a call near the 55-mile marker of Interstate 29 after a boater reported seeing a possible body in the water. The body was located in an inlet notch on the Iowa side of the river, directly across from Freedom Park in Omaha.
Council Bluffs Fire personnel recovered the body and brought it to the nearest boat ramp, where detectives from the Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division began an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Garland’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy.
