(Atlantic) — The Cass County Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, September 30, at 9:00 a.m. in the boardroom at the Cass County Courthouse.
The agenda includes discussion and possible action on a lease for the former Willow Heights Care Facility, as well as consideration of support for the Vision Atlantic Project.
Vision Atlantic, a local non-profit, has already secured a $23 million revolving loan fund from the Charles E. Lakin Foundation. The organization is now working to raise funds to qualify for an additional $8.6 million grant from the foundation. To be eligible for the grant, Vision Atlantic must raise 80 percent of its fundraising goal. The funds would support the construction of a new 300-capacity childcare center and the expansion of the Nishna Valley YMCA.
The Willow Heights facility, which was part of the county-owned property offered during a farmland auction in January 2023, failed to sell. That property included 117.73 acres of cropland, 34.43 acres of pastureland, and the former County Care Facility. While the land was sold, the building itself has remained unsold despite multiple efforts.
