(Atlantic) KSOM/KS95 News continues our series on the Vision Atlantic initiative. This transformative $84 million project includes 142 new housing units, an expansion of the YMCA, and the development of a new childcare center. Today, we are speaking with Dr. Bob Sharp, President of the Nishna Valley YMCA Board of Directors, and a member of the Vision Atlantic Committee, and Deb Schuler, Co-Chair of the Community Division of Vision Atlantic.
Dr. Sharp reports that progress is being made on the construction aspects of the housing project. Construction crews are currently building the foundations at the corner of 22nd Street and Olive. Sharp noted that funding for the 142 housing units has been secured through a revolving loan fund. However, the funding continues for the YMCA expansion and the 300-capacity childcare center.
As the harvest season begins, Deb Schuler shares how individuals can contribute to the fundraising efforts. She explains that donations can take various forms, including cash contributions, participation through an IRA charitable rollover, planned giving, gifts of real estate, corporate sponsorships, online donations, or even donations of grain from the farming community.
In addition to donations, Dr. Sharp states that the committee is seeking volunteers to assist with this cause.
