(Treynor) The Treynor Cardinals enter week four riding momentum after a 57-21 victory over Pella Christian. Treynor opened non-district play with a 42-8 win over Riverside, slipped in a loss to Van Meter, and bounced back with last week’s convincing win over Pella Christian.
Treynor Head Coach Jeff Casey notes the team is off to a good start, considering the tough non-district competition.
Ethan Hill is a sharpshooter, completing 71 percent of his passes for 463 yards. The senior is 40-56 with six touchdown passes. Coach Casey says Ethan has been the backup quarterback over the past three years, and was moved to wide out last season to get him on the field.
First-team all-district running back Jett Sornson leads the rushing attack with 50 carries for 342 yards, averaging 6.8 yards per carry, and four touchdowns. Drew Meyers is equally impressive with 13 carries for 139 yards. Next up for Treynor is Shenandoah. The Mustangs are 2-1 with an amazing 20-3 victory.
Casey says Shenandoah’s quarterback Joe O’Rourick is 20-53 throwing the football for 284 yards. The Mustangs have rushed for 346 yards. Zane McManis leads the ground attack with 145 yards, O’Rourick, 111 yards, and Tide End Cole Graham leads the receiving corps with nine catches for 116 yards.
Treynor and Shenandoah are members of Class 1A District #8 with Missouri Valley, Underwood, Red Oak, and Tri-Center.
It’s homecoming in Treynor. The Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
