(Mount Ayr) Two familiar foes meet Friday night when ACGC travels to Mount Ayr for a week four district matchup.
The Chargers have dominated early competition, outscoring opponents by an average of 49-2 through three games. Mount Ayr enters the contest at 1-2.
Chargers Head Coach Cody Matthewson credits his team’s resiliency year after year, noting that each season new players step up with a “next man in” mentality.
He also points to his front four as the strongest group he has coached in a long time.
Offensively, ACGC has been just as powerful, averaging 9.8 yards per carry. Joe Crawford leads the ground attack with 20 carries for 365 yards—an impressive 18.2 yards per carry.
Matthewson says the challenge with Mount Ayr lies in the two programs’ familiarity. In his eight years at ACGC, this will mark the seventh meeting with the Raiders.
Like ACGC, Mount Ayr relies heavily on its running game. The Raiders have piled up 844 rushing yards, led by Adler Reed with 222 yards (10.6 per carry) and Jackson Ruggles with 217 yards (6.4 per carry).
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Mount Ayr.
