(Storm Lake) Storm Lake Head Football Coach Drake Curry says his squad has made good progress heading into the week four matchup with Atlantic on Friday night. The Tornadoes got off to a good start with the week one 39-13 win over Denison-Schleswig. Both teams enter the matchup with 1-2 records.
Coach Curry believes his team is improving as they head into this week 4 matchup.
Storm Lake Quarterback Cameron Boyd is a big part of the Tornadoes’ offense. The senior is 42/79 for 582 yards and eight touchdowns. Boyd is a multi-purpose quarterback with running ability. The junior has carried the ball 28 times for 162 yards. Coach Curry says they have been fortunate to have some good quarterbacks come through the system the last couple of years.
The game features two different offensive styles. The Tornadoes are a passing team. The Trojans like to run the football. In the first three games, Atlantic has attempted 94 running plays, compared to 33 passing. Storm Lake has thrown the ball 79 times, compared to 67 on the ground.
The Trojans have rushed for 332 yards and passed for another 186, led by Ethan McNeil with 54 carries for 215 yards. The Tornadoes have passed for 582 yards and rushed for 270. Cameron Boyd leads the team with 162 rushing yards. Marcos Cortez-Oropeza has 33 carries for 101 yards.
