(Corning, IA) — Last year in week 7, Riverside went to Corning and played Southwest Valley and escaped with a 33-32 overtime win. Wyatt Mendenhall had missed the last couple of games because of an injury for the Timberwolves but he came back for the Bulldogs and he ran for 145 yards and a TD and threw a TD pass. Its deja vu all over again as Mendenhall is recovering from an injury again and could suit up to play Riverside this week. Bulldogs Head Coach Darrell Frain says his team better be ready
Riverside is coming off a 32-21 win over rival AHSTW — Jaxon Gordon overcame injuries to carry it 33 times for 176 yards and 2 TD. Frain says he is still sore but should be ready to go tonight. Senior Jack Branan led the defense last week with 10 tackles and Frain says he has really picked up his intensity this year
The Timberwolves will be gritty no matter who is at quarterback — they run the ball hard and last week Wyatt Shires actually threw for 313 yards and 2 TD in a 30-10 win over Central Decatur. Frain says that Southwest Valley is a sneaky kind of team and his Bulldog team cannot take them lightly this time
Last week, Head Coach Keegan Longabaugh said the plan against Central Decatur was to use Walker Bissell at QB and Shires was going to play running back but he had to make some adjustments when Bissell struggled early
Longabaugh says that Mendenhall will be a game time decision but he will be the QB if he’s ready to go
Longabaugh says after playing Riverside close a year ago gives his team confidence going into the rematch on Friday night
