(Indianola) Former Simpson College and Atlantic standout Haley Rasmussen has been hired as an Assistant Coach for the Simpson College women’s basketball team.
Simpson Head Coach Brian Niemuth stated on social media, “Haley brings a work ethic and knowledge of our system that will help our players reach their potential.”
Haley closed out her women’s basketball career with a historic shooting season, claiming the NCAA Division III Statistical Champion title for 3-point percentage. Rasmussen knocked down shots at an astonishing 51.7% clip from beyond the arc — the best single-season mark not only in Simpson history but across all NCAA divisions, men’s and women’s.
According to the Simpson College website, her sharpshooting led Simpson to national prominence. The Storm topped all NCAA women’s divisions in team 3-point percentage, finishing the year at a program-best 40.2%. This marks the second time in four seasons that the Storm have led the nation in this category.
Over 26 games, Rasmussen sank 75 triples, finishing among the top 20 in DIII in total 3-pointers and makes per game. She now sits atop Simpson’s single-season 3-point list. Senior guard Molly Lutmer also delivered a strong season from deep, hitting 70 threes at a 37.6% rate. Both players conclude their careers ranked in the program’s top five for career 3-pointers made.
Rasmussen joined the elite company at Simpson, becoming the third player in school history to lead the nation in 3-point percentage, alongside Jenna Taylor (2019) and Amy Hamilton (2009).
In addition to her outstanding accomplishments, she finished her senior season as the team’s Most Valuable Player and First-Team All-Conference for the second time. She received the Barborka award from Simpson College, the highest award for all Simpson College athletes.
Ms. Rasmussen accepted a fourth-grade teaching position at Irving Elementary in the Indianola School District.
