(Ames, IA) — Two counties in Iowa are preparing a case for the U.S. Supreme Court that they say could take away local control for other counties and states. Linda Murkin is the Story County Supervisor.
The case being filed by Story and Shelby Counties involves the Summit Carbon Pipeline. They say they’re being blocked from regulating the land use, things like how close the pipeline can be to homes and businesses. A federal appeals court sided with Summit. The counties are hoping the US Supreme Court will give them back their authority.
Once the case is filed, and if the Supreme Court hears it, the decision could affect local control of land in Nebraska, Minnesota, and the Dakotas.
