(Iowa City, IA) — On Saturday night, Kirk Ferentz won his 206th career game and became the #1 winningest coach in Big Ten history as Iowa thumped UMass 47-7.
The game was never in any doubt — Iowa took just 3 plays to score on the opening drive of the game as Mark Gronowski hit Sam Phillips for a 45 yard pass and then found Seth Anderson for a 20 yard TD. After a Minutemen 3 and out, Gronowski found Anderson again on a 3 yard TD pass. Another 3 and out for UMass and Kaden Wetjen had a 20 yard TD run. Iowa led 30-7 at the half.
Wetjen tied a Hawkeye record with a 95 yard punt return for a TD. Iowa held UMass to just 119 total yards and the Minutemen had zero yards rushing in the first half.
