(Anita, IA) — Nick Kauffman got his first win as a Varsity Head Coach last week as CAM edged Coon Rapids Bayard 46-40. That was their district opener but the Cougars are back to non district action today visiting undefeated Bedford.
Junior Kason Calhoun had a big game for CAM against the Crusaders with 12.5 tackles, 12 of them solo. Kauffman says he is just a natural tackler and it really goes back to last year
Kauffman had to make some adjustments last week on the offensive line last week because of the injury to Tight End Carson McKee. Brentyn Hoover moved from Guard to Tight End and Drew Barber went to Guard. Kauffman said the new arrangement worked out well and McKee could return to the line up this week so its something the Cougars can go back to.
Zach Kauffman, meanwhile, had better numbers throwing for 164 yards with 4 TD and no interceptions and his father and coach Nick Kauffman like the improvement from Week One to Week Two
Collin Bower had another big game — on defense 8 tackles, 7 solo, 1 TFL, returned a fumble for a TD and on offense, 4 receptions for 121 yards and 2 TD plus he carried the ball 11 times for 74 yards and 2 more scores. Kauffman says getting Bower into the running game was by design
CAM goes south today to face a very salty Bedford team — the Bulldogs were not in the Radio Iowa Pre Season poll but they are in there now at #10 after dismantling their opponents Sidney 73-12 and Lenox 50-14. Junior QB Quentin Dalton has 262 yards rushing and 5 TD, averaging 10.5 yards a carry and has thrown for 107 yards and 2 TD. Senior Ashton Nally has 164 yards rushing and 4 TD. Nally leads the defense with 15 tackles and the Bulldogs have 19 tackles for a loss led by Freshman Lucas Minor with 3 QB sacks and 6 TFLs. Kauffman says this will be a physical game
CAM is 1-1 at Bedford 2-0
