(Audubon, IA) — Tri Center pulled out a four set win over Audubon in the Western Iowa Conference opener for both teams on Thursday night.
Each set was close but the Trojans did just enough at the end of three sets to beat the Wheelers 25-17, 21-25, 25-13, and 25-22.
In set one, Tri Center led 19-17 but got a side out and won the final 6 points.
Set two was back and forth and Audubon’s Harlow Miller served back to back aces to give the Wheelers a 19-16 lead and they were able to side out to even the match.
In set three Tri Center led 6-5 and after winning a side out, Tess Casey served five straight points including back to back aces to build a 12-5 lead. Leading 19-13, Tri Center won a great volley with a Casey kill and the Trojans scored the final 6 points.
Set four was tight throughout — Harlow Miller’s 7th ace of the night gave Audubon an 18-17 lead but a side out and a point for Tri Center gave them a 19-18 lead. The Trojans earned another point on serve to lead 22-20. Jozie Payne’s ace made it 24-21 and the Trojans put the match away.
