(Underwood, IA) — Two games, two wins for the Underwood football team. Head Coach Nate Mechaelsen put an emphasis on his summer program to get the Eagles off to a good start and it has worked — a 33-29 win over Harlan and last week they ran away from the Road Runners of I-35 49-6. Mechaelsen did say they had a few injuries but nothing series but it gave other guys a chance to play and some took advantage like Freshman River Allen who had 12 carries for 100 yards and a TD. Mechaelsen says Allen stood out early this year in practice
In the passing game, Garrett Luett was extremely efficient, going 20-28 in the air for 152 yards and 3 TD and no picks. His main target was Kyle Sub who is Underwood’s most veteran receiver — the Senior only had 2 catches against Harlan but had 9 receptions for 69 yards and a TD last week. Mechaelsen says they did not intentionally try to target Sub, its how it worked out
On defense, Underwood is led by Senior Ryker Adair who had 6 tackles against I-35 and leads with 11 overall — Mechealsen says he has done well even with a position change
Underwood will visit 1-1 Clarinda this Friday.
