(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County WIC program received the USDA Breastfeeding Award of Excellence Premiere Level.
The WIC Breastfeeding Award of Excellence Program recognizes local WIC agencies with peer counseling programs that provide exceptional support to breastfeeding families. The award highlights high-performing agencies and encourages others to strengthen their breastfeeding services, with the goal of improving breastfeeding initiation and duration rates among WIC participants.
Kris Wood, WIC Program Administrator, spoke about the award with the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday morning.
The WIC Breastfeeding Award of Excellence is presented at three levels—Gold, Premiere, and Elite—across seven U.S. regions. In 2025, 35 awards were presented in the Midwest Region, including 15 at the Premiere level. Pottawattamie County WIC was the only Iowa agency to receive the Premiere-level distinction.
