(Exira) Work continues on the East Washington Street improvement project in Exira. The construction work consists of improvements from Carthage Street to Eastside Drive.
Dave Sturm, from Snyder and Associates, who is engineering the project, says it started two weeks ago. The improvements include a water main replacement between Carthage Street and Fairview Street, a new asphalt surface from Carthage Street to Eastside Drive, and new sidewalks in the downtown corridor.
On April 21st, 2025, the contract for this project was awarded to Blacktop Services Inc. This project is being funded in part by Surface Transportation Block Grant Funds and tax increment financing by the City of Exira. As of September 1, 2025, Contractors have started boring a new water main under the north side of Washington Street. They will then complete service connections to the existing businesses, followed by the replacement of sidewalks, then street regrading and surfacing.
The anticipated completion date for this project is by the end of November 2025.
