(Harlan, IA) — Harlan’s girls cross country lost its leader from last season — Lindsey Sonderman is now running at Northern Iowa but the Cyclones might even be deeper this season. Harlan has won their first two meets and is led by Sophomore Ashlyn Rau who was a top 20 finisher at state last year and Head Coach Zach Klassen says she is motivated to get on the deck this season
The number two runner is a freshman — Julia Heslink — who has adjusted quickly to the longer races says Klassen
Harlan also has Junior Allie Anderson, Sophomore Aspen Biecker, Junior Ava Freund and Junior Sadie Alberti is recovering from an injury. Harlan is so deep that two seniors Lily Schechinger and Kori Smith cannot crack the line up.
On the boys side, Harlan was 4th at Shenandoah and 6th in Glenwood. The Cyclones are young — no seniors are running this year. Junior Erik Heslink will be at number two and Junior Jeffrey Gross is number one who Klassen says ran hurt last year
Klassen says the numbers are low for the boys this year but completing the line up is Junior Nathan Sandquist, Junior Kobi Kimmen, and Freshman Brogen Schechinger complete the line up.
Harlan will run on Tuesday up in Le Mars.
