(Washington, DC) — The number of Americans filing first-time requests for unemployment benefits is up.
The Labor Department says it received 237-thousand initial claims in the week ending August 30th. That’s an increase of eight-thousand from the week prior and was also about seven-thousand claims more than most analysts were expecting.
Meanwhile, ADP is out with its August payrolls report which shows a lackluster 54-thousand jobs added last month in the private sector. The forecast, which was already on the low side, was for around 75-thousand new jobs.
