(Elk Horn, IA) — Exira EHK will open their cross country season tonight at a meet hosted by West Central Valley. Head Coach Kevin Brown says his girls and boys are itching to get on the course and he thinks the Spartans could be represented at state this year. Last year Austin Rasmussen made it to Fort Dodge and now in his senior season, Brown says he is poised to have another big year
Junior Josiah King and Freshman Jacob Porter will provide depth and Brown also has experience with Seniors Ben Baggett and Carter Wiemann
On the girls side, Junior Michelle Wilson made it to state two years ago but not in 2024 so Brown thinks she will be motivated this year
The Spartans do not have a senior on this year’s squad — Junior Leah Boysen, Junior Kaitlyn Christensen and Freshman Olivia Poldberg will run to support Wilson.
Tonight, Brown expects good competition in their opening meet in Stuart
Other teams competing tonight in the West Central Valley meet are Ankeny Christian, CAM, Creston, Des Moines Hoover, Earlham, Greene County, Interstate 35, Nodaway Valley, Saydel and Southwest Valley.
