(Audubon, IA) — Last year Audubon lost to Remsen St. Mary’s in the 8 man quarterfinals to end the Wheelers season one step away from going to the Dome. The shoe was on the other foot last Friday as Audubon destroyed the Hawks 64-18. They did it while only throwing two passes the entire the game. Part of that was also that starting QB Carson Wessel was injured so Sophomore Aiden Kjergaard stepped in and ran it 7 times for 198 yards with 4 TD. Wessel did play a little and had 2 carries for 39 yards. Head Coach Sean Birks explains the situation
Mason Kasperbauer had 5 carries for 64 yards and a TD but made his mark on defense by returning a fumble 17 yards for a TD and returned an interception 22 yards for another score. Birks says Kasperbauer was in the right place at the right time
Overall, Birks saw a lot of good things on the football field last Friday and hopes it can continue
This week, Audubon visits Griswold — the two teams have not played since 2015.
