(Harlan, IA) — Harlan Volleyball only had 9 wins last season but they have 4 wins in their first week under new Head Coach Amber Brown. The Cyclones had to replace their leading hitter Aubrey Schweiso and middle hitter Senior Kenzley Bruck is hurt to start this season but Harlan has had players step up. Senior Hope Preston who was 2nd last year in kills has 26 to start this year; Senior Ellerie Nelson has 25 kills; Junior Taylor Heese has 21 kills; and Junior Aubree Wagner has 18. Brown says that Preston and Nelson have played aggressive volleyball on offense
Harlan will use two setters this year and run a 5-2 offense — Senior Katelyn Koesters (46 assists) and Heese (36 assists) and Brown likes what they have done so far
Senior Carly Torneten (40 digs) is the libero and Brown says Junior Avery Manz and Nelson are playing on the back line.
For Brown, this is her first high school varsity head coaching position — she is from Papillion, Nebraska and coached some club volleyball, was an assistant at College of St. Mary’s, coached at Millard South but she has gotten the team to buy in to her style
Harlan is 4-4 and they will open Hawkeye Ten Conference play Thursday at Denison Schleswig.
