(Denison) AAA is advising motorists to expect heavier traffic on the roads over the next several days.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper and District 4 Public Information Officer Shelby McCreedy says the Labor Day weekend is often viewed as the unofficial end of summer, with many families making one last trip before school activities resume in full force. She adds the weekend also closes out the “100 deadliest days of summer” on Iowa’s roadways.
Trooper McCreedy notes that 45 people lost their lives in crashes during the final weeks of summer last year. With the extended holiday, she says law enforcement will be placing special emphasis on impaired driving.
Drivers should also expect to see more law enforcement on the roads.
In 2024, two people were killed in traffic crashes over Labor Day weekend—the lowest number recorded since 2011.
