(Anita, IA) — It was a one sided affair in Anita on Friday night as Fremont Mills scored 44 unanswered points and blew past CAM 52-6 in a non-district 8 man showdown.
The Knights got most of their yardage in the air and their defense smothered the CAM rushing attack spoiling the debut of Nick Kauffman, the new Head Coach of the Cougars.
In the first quarter, CAM tried a fake punt on their first drive but it did not work and Fremont Mills converted a 3rd and 20 on a 23 yard pass to J.W. Linkenhoker and QB Sawyer Forney capped the drive with a 4 yard TD and the 2 point conversion made it 8-0.
On the ensuing kickoff, CAM’s Collin Bower took it 77 yards for a touchdown to answer back — the two pointer was no good and it was 8-6.
Bower made a great defensive stop on 4th and 2 on the Knights next drive and Bower caught a 26 yard pass on 3rd and 25 but early in the 2nd quarter, Zach Kauffman threw one up for grabs in the end zone and Sam Sanchez picked it off. The Knights would fumble it right back to CAM but the Cougars had to punt. Linkenhoker got through to block Kason Calhoun’s kick and Gavin Crom picked it up and ran 12 yards for a TD and Fremont Mills led 16-6.
Forney would pick off Kauffman again in the end zone and then Forney found Sam Sanchez for a 25 yard TD pass and Fremont Mills led 24-6 at the half.
On CAM’s first drive in the 2nd half, Forney got his 2nd interception of the game and then threw a 7 yard TD pass to Mason Reed to make it 32-6.
Sanchez added another INT and Forney threw two more scores — a 10 yarder to Linkenhoker and a 34 yarder to Nash Moreland. Wyatt Madison added a 52 yard TD run late and the Knights rolled to the win.
Unofficially, Sawyer Forney was 13-23 passing for 277 yards and 4 TD.
Mason Reed had 5 catches for 87 yards and a TD. Linkenhoker had 4 catches for 48 yards and a TD.
For CAM, Nick Kauffman was 8-15 passing for 101 yards and 3 INT and had minus-56 yards rushing thanks to bad snaps and sacks.
