(Audubon) Audubon opens the season against a non-district opponent that ended the Wheelers’ season a year ago. The Wheelers had another outstanding 2024 campaign, running the table during the regular season and advancing deep into the playoffs before falling to Remsen St. Mary’s 61-20 in the 8-player quarterfinals. They finished the season at 10-1.
The Wheeler program competes at a high level with a state championship as an always-aspiring goal. Audubon Head Coach Sean Birks, going into his thirteenth year, credits the winning tradition to the players trusting the process.
Coach Birks has coached numerous talented teams over the years. When it comes down to talent and size, Coach Birks ranks this class as one of the best. He said what they lack is experience and depth.
The wheelers are prepping for a Remsen St. Mary’s team that lost a lot of their personnel from graduation off of last year’s 8-player football state championship squad.
The Kick-Off is set for 7:00 p.m. at Audubon. The Wheelers open district play on September 5 at Griswold.
