(Avoca, IA) — AHSTW will host Logan Magnolia in football action on Friday and it marks the return to the sidelines for Viking Head Coach Davis Pattee. After leaving to be the Athletic Director at Harlan, Pattee came back to become Principal in Avoca and when the football job opened up, Pattee filled it.
The Vikings are coming off a 6-3 season with a playoff win but lose leading rusher Luke Sternberg. Sophomore Dayton Osbahr returns at Quarterback and Pattee says he is still making mistakes that a young quarterback will make but has a high upside
Seniors Drew Lee and Gatlin Gettler look like they will get the majority of touches at tailback; Seniors Collin Harder and Chase Wheatley could see time at receiver; and Senior Cash Freeman can play just about any position on the field.
Lee will anchor the defense after leading the Vikings in tackles last year with 82
Pattee says that Logan Magnolia will be a challenging opening game
After going 5-4 last season, Logan Magnolia will be a team to watch according to the high school football pundits although not ranked in the Radio Iowa Pre Season poll in Class A. The Panthers return Junior Quarterback Ashton Peszulik who threw for 1,632 yards and 20 TD and Head Coach Matt Straight they will need him to do more especially in the run game this year
The Panthers strength are their two tight ends — Senior Adam Roden had 19 catches for 213 yards and Senior Carson Edney had 26 receptions for 387 yards. Straight says they both make an impact on defense
Straight is impressed with what he has seen on film for AHSTW
