(Underwood, IA) — Underwood Football Head Coach Nate Mechaelsen was not happy with his team’s participation during the previous summers. Last season, the Eagles lost their first two games and lost 4 of their first 6. They did recover and made it to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs, missing the Dome by one game. Underwood did finish 6-5 overall last season and return All Everything Garrett Luett at quarterback — last year as a junior he threw for 2,184 yards with 22 TD but 12 interceptions. He loses his top four receivers from last year — the leading returner is Junior Kyle Sub (24 receptions, 266 yards, 3 TD) so Mechaelsen says that has been a position of emphasis during practice
Mechaelsen says that with Luett back at QB, it has helped in the development of the receivers
Underwood is in Class 1A District 8 with Missouri Valley, Red Oak, Shenandoah, Treynor and Tri Center. The Eagles open their season on Thursday, August 28 hosting Harlan.
