(Atlantic) A multi-vehicle accident involving a piece of farm equipment occurred Tuesday afternoon just south of Buck Creek on Fairview Road North of Atlantic.
Cass County Deputy Kyle Quist tells KSOM/KS95 News, a white 2014 Chevy Silverado pulling a bean head on a trailer, driven by Alan Jensen of Exira, struck the rear of a black 2013 Chevy pickup driven by Ried Smith, also of Exira. Smith’s vehicle had been stopped in a line of traffic at the railroad crossing when it was rear-ended.
The impact caused Smith’s vehicle to be pushed forward into a black 2012 Toyota pickup driven by Jay Petersen, who was also stopped at the railroad tracks.
Deputy Quist says the occupants involved sustained only minor scrapes.
The Chevy pickups driven by Jensen and Smith appear to be total losses due to the extent of the damage. Petersen’s Toyota pickup, however, sustained less damage and was able to be removed from the scene.
Emergency personnel responded promptly. Atlantic Fire assisted with cleanup efforts after a diesel fuel spill was discovered at the scene. Richter and Son handled the recovery of the bean head, and the removal of all vehicles involved.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Atlantic Fire and Rescue, Atlantic Police Department, Cass EMS, and Cass County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Kennon.
